Couple of things...

I thought I'd update that my surgeon wasn't too disappointed in my very slow weight loss, he said it's still good I haven't put it on. He gently reminded me about snacking etc. ;) I was honest with him, which felt good. No fill, and back in 3 months.

AND I've finally got below the next kg barrier, now I'm 94.8kg.

And one last thing. As one friend described me, I must be "a special kind of crazy" as I signed up for THIS:

What have I done?? LOL!!! For my non-Aussie readers, The Commando is from our The Biggest Loser. He's ex SAS Army and is now a trainer and is as hard on everyone as he appears in that photo.

Damn, he's cute though!! ;)

The real reason I did it is that he expects everyone to perform the best they can, whatever level that is. And I want to find out what that level is with me. I need him yelling at me, yelling in my ear, making me scared, making me FIRE UP!!

Time to do some measurements

Since my weight doesn't seem to want to move below 95kg, nor my brain & emotions want to behave with eating properly, I thought I'd see how the measurements were going.

16 March 2010:

* Chest 132cm
* Waist 133cm
* Hips 129cm
* Butt 131cm

29 April 2010:

* Chest 125cm
* Waist 129cm
* Hips 120cm
* Butt 127cm

1 July 2010:

* Chest 120cm
* Waist 121cm
* Hips 116cm
* Butt 124cm

18 December 2010:

* Chest 120cm
* Waist 117cm
* Hips 112cm
* Butt 120cm

31 March 2011:

* Chest 116cm
* Waist 114.5cm
* Hips 110cm
* Butt 118.5cm

That makes me feel a bit better, to know that even if the weight isn't going down my shape is.

Off for my regular surgeon visit this afternoon. I don't think I'll get a fill as my issues aren't hunger, they're mental and emotional issues. But I'll show him these stats for sure!!

No throwing them out today

I don't need to smash up the scales or throw them out the window today. Monday weigh in puts me at 95.2 which is DOWN BABY!!! :P

Flat land

So everyone - what have you done to get off your plateau? My will power is still fairly low so I know I'm not perfect with what I eat nor how much of it (but fairly close to target, not *too* bad) but I'm finding budging anything at the moment (well, the last few months) hard.

I have finally broken through to 95.8kg today which is good, trying to get under 96kg was a battle. I'm a size 18 which is great compared to where I started at a 26!!

I'm exercising, although a bit of it is possibly more toning than cardio stuff, or a bit of a combination, so maybe I'm building muscle. And that's good. But I need to get the balance right.

I eat a little more than I should in a serving but it's not due to hunger so I wonder if a fill would help at all, given my surgeon says you only need a fill if you're hungry.

Crap it's the same sort of stuff I was dealing with pre-band but just in smaller portions! I think I really do know what to do but don't have the motivation to do it. Maybe budging weight is actually easier than budging our mind. ;)

Maybe clutching at straws here but has anyone used some of the appetite suppressant/metabolism stimulant drugs with a lap band?

Week one weigh in

So it's the end of week one since re-committing myself and going for the goal.

And the scales say...

96.4kg.

Woop-de-flippin-do.

600gms in a week. I fluctuate that much normally when I'm not even trying.

All that effort this week for 600gms. Yep, that GIANT fish worth.

I've stuck reasonably close to a 1200calorie a day diet, I've done heaps at the gym, stopped drinking whilst eating.

Yes, it's a loss, yes, I know the first week might be slow but still, I feel FLAT. And being an emotional eater, all I want to do is eat something bad to feel better. :(

Woop-de-do

Bah meh poo-bum.

Scales.

5 days of hard trying.

No thrilling results, no more than any other week.

Need I say more.

Day one

Day one of being on track and I'm doing ok so far. Muesli for lunch, 2x S&V rice cakes for snack and avocado, chicken & fresh corn roll for lunch. No drinking during meals either! For me, that's good. LOL!

Only halfway through the day so far but going well!

Weigh in put me at 97kg so that means 34kg to get to goal (unless goal is changed as I get closer, as BMI is so vague I'm only taking a guess at a goal weight, it's more like size 14 is my goal) which is approximately 1.5kg per week. Not an easy task, but I'll try. :)

Cool!

Well blow me down with a feather - I'm back to my pre-op pre-Christmas weight of 96kg today!

I have NO IDEA how I've managed to shed the 4kg that I put on from the surgery fluids etc (and possibly Christmas/holiday eating) as I haven't exercised (not back at gym yet, wait until next week then start taking it easy on the treadmill I think) and I have, I promise, eaten absolutely terrible food like chips and lollies and cream and dessert etc with somewhat abandon.

And it's STILL gone!!

No idea why but I'm not arguing!

Measuring and weighing

I thought I'd report my weight today - 96kg! Lowest I've been in a LONG time!!

So I got the tape measure out too.

Last time (July):

* Chest 120cm
* Waist 121cm
* Hips 116cm
* Butt 124cm

This time (December):

* Chest 120cm
* Waist 117cm
* Hips 112cm
* Butt 120cm

:)

It's slowed, but so has my motivation. But it's still coming down which is good!

Why no posts from me?

So why have I been so quiet here?

Can you see me up there? On that big plateau? I'm up there, waving from the camp I've set up. I've made myself quite at home. I've been sitting there for a couple of months.

I got to below 100kg and stalled (I did get to 96kg and have hovered around there mostly), both physically and mentally. More so the mental side effecting the physical side.

I've had a fair bit of stuff going on, like all the stuff with starting up our own business, finding out I have gallstones and needing my gallbladder out (surgery now moved to 3 days before Christmas). I've been like a yo-yo with my depression and anxiety. I've basically struggled to find the motivation I once had to kick myself up the butt and get moving. I also think I need a fill but nothing is happening with that until after the surgery. I've been constantly cheating and eating bad food - my diet is appalling for someone with a lap-band (albeit WAY better than it used to be). My exercising certainly hasn't been 100% either.

I feel like I'm in some plateau limbo land. And I can't drag myself off and no matter what anyone says they can't motivate me off.

Hopefully after the surgery and recovery I'll find something ... deep inside ... and I can get moving on the 2nd half of my weight loss. I'm only 1/2 way there, I HAVE to lose more.

Feel free to tell me you've been here, been here for a good length of time and STILL moved off and got heaps more weight off!!!

Just quietly....

Shhh.... I have a secret....

I'VE LOST 30KG (66lb)!!!!!!!

My LOVELY (LOL) scales told me that I weigh 96.4kg this morning. That's down from a start weight of 126.9kg.

And, to the obligatory fish picture:

That's one big bugger of a fish!! I've lost the equivalent of that fish!! Granted, I'm not as smelly as that fish. ;) Well I hope! LOL! But that's a HECK of a lot of weight!!

I do have to remind myself that I am only half way there to goal. Another 30kg and I'll be FINALLY down in the "normal" BMI.

But it's a great way to start my day, and I have enthusiasm for my workout today.

No fill and gallbladder update

I have gallstones. It was obvious to me during the ultrasound, even I could clearly see them. The ultrasound dude (who probably has an official title) confirmed. That SUCKS.

But it's VERY VERY common for bandsters. How unfair is it that one of the things that can lead to gallstones is obesity and another is rapid weight loss? We're doomed either way!! Bah.

So there are a few options, but my research (and my surgeon, haven't seen the GP yet) tells me that surgery is really the best one.

You can get them blasted out ultrasonically. They'll break up into little pieces and be passed out. BUT you can get massive pain when they pass - IF they get small enough to pass. And they, in most cases, simply come back.

You can take tablets to dissolve them. But these tablets take about 2 years to work, can give you the runs, and as soon as you stop taking them they'll probably come back.

Or you can have keyhole surgery and get the gallbladder removed. We're usually fine without it - some people might get a little diarrhoea as the bile goes straight into the stomach rather than waiting in the gallbladder. But you should function ok.

I don't want more surgery. I'm scared of surgery. I don't want more holes poked in me leaving me with 30,000 teeny scars on my belly. But I don't want gallstones.

I have all the paperwork for surgery if I want to fill it out. Waiting list is only a couple of weeks apparently. I need to decide, preferably by tomorrow, and I don't want to decide.

*******

I didn't get a fill today. The surgeon was happy that my weight is still going down, even though it's slowed (although his scales don't like me as much as mine do, perils of end of day appointment). I told him about my physical and mental plateau and that I'm moving now. He said it's better to be a little loose than a little tight - if you're too tight you'll start eating food that goes down easy which tends to be bad stuff. ;)

No more appointments at this stage, we're going to get the gallbladder under control first.

Weight update and NSV

I'm off to the surgeon this afternoon but before I go I wanted to tell you that the scales said 97.8kg this morning!! That's 29kg down - YAY! They're starting to move again.

AND I've discovered that I can walk down steps one foot per step - previously I had to put both feet on each step and walk sort of sideways because of my knees. So great news!!

See you after the surgeon visit, possibly a little fill coming maybe.

It's working

Looks like my extra effort this week if working! I've been to the gym/swim 4 times this week (usually it's 2, sometimes 3 max) and I've really cut back on my naughty eating. I just had to adjust my mental status. Losing weight is a mental fight more than anything else.

Anyway, I got on the scales this morning and was thrilled to see that I am now 98.8kg! I'd hovered around 100kg for so long, it's good to see the weight going down again.

Gym junkie

Who'd have thought a year ago I'd have gone to the gym both days on the weekend? Who'd have thought I'd go at all? LOL!! But I have this weekend. I pushed myself pretty hard today. I had a headache (still do), and was feeling quite low emotionally (stupid TTOM about to happen, messes with me terribly), but going to the gym really did make a difference at least to my mood.

I weighed myself the other day and was 99.2kg which is the lowest I've been, but I do still keep fluctuating up and down at the moment around that 100kg mark. School holidays are about to end here so I'll be back in my normal routine where I get a break from the kids (my day carer had been away too so have had less of a break over last month) so I'm hoping that I can push out of lack of enthusiasm and get moving again.

I'm seeing the surgeon after a 3 month break at the end of this month. I'm not sure if I want a fill or not - I think it's more mental than band-related, but would a little fill help still?

Oh I want to add that every time I'm following a new person's blog in Google Reader (the main way I read all your blogs) I put them here on my blog buddies list. There's a few new ones there!

New bottom!

I just tried on some jeans, as I was running out of long pants that fit.

No longer is it like this:

I cannot believe it, but in 7 months, I've come from a size 26 butt to a size 18 butt!! That's a US 22/3X to a US 14 L/XL according to my online converter.

I honestly didn't think I was going to fit in them as the ones I tried a week or two ago didn't fit around my belly (it's a bit big really) but it turns out they must be small waisted.

THAT helps me keep going!! Oh and the fact that I am still hovering around 100kg even at TTOTM. ;)

Another surgeon visit

And I don't have to go back for 3 months!! Yay! I weighed in at 102kg there, but at home I'm 101.6kg, so we only have a 400gm discrepancy, which isn't too bad. But this morning I was at my lowest ever of 100.6kg! SO SO close to double figures, under the elusive 100kg!

Anyway they (being the surgeon and his wife/assistant/dietician) asked how I was going, if I was happy, and I answered YEP. That last fill was the one, it hit the sweet spot, and I don't need any more filling up now. I only PB a little and that's usually when I'm not concentrating properly and don't chew properly. My meals are keeping the hunger at bay for a good period of time, and my portions aren't too big. All good!

I thought they might think my weight loss was a bit slow, but they are happy (as I am) with a lifestyle that is slow and steady and sustainable.

Yay for today!

A huge thank you to Emma over at My so-called lapband life for passing on some more clothes from the sisterhood. I got them today, and.... THE DRESS FITS!!!! It's a size 18 dress, super cool (zebra print) and I'm THRILLED that a dress in that size fits!! The top also *just* fits. Well it fits fine, but shows my love handles a little more than I'd like, but still fits. And the best news.... the size 18 jeans she sent JUST ABOUT FIT!! The only thing stopping me from getting into the jeans is my belly. And after 2 kids and 2 caesareans, I'm ok with that!! It will get there! So thank you for the clothes and for making me happy Em!!

Another awesome thing... last weigh in I was 101kg!!!!!! How damn close to under 100kg is that (don't answer, that's a rhetorical question LOL)???? SO SO HAPPY.

Today I did a huge workout at the gym, have started doing some weight training as well as cardio which is nice, I like it.

I have an appointment with the surgeon next week but I think I'll skip a fill, for the first time, I think I found the sweet spot. :)

TODAY IS GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!

Here I am!

Here I am, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth, I was away.

I've had a week away with the family and I decided before I went that I wasn't going to worry too much about what I ate while away. I didn't completely throw abandon to the wind (is that the saying??) by gorging myself but I did eat things that were bad for me. I had quite a few things get stuck but that was my own fault for not concentrating on eating and not chewing properly.

I did do lots (and I mean LOTS) of walking as we were at a conference (Hillsong Conference in Sydney, Australia if anyone is interested) which was fairly spread out. There were lots of steps too (to our second floor apartment and at the venues, and on the ferries we went on, and up to the plane etc...) which my knees HATED. But no formal exercise all week.

So with no formal exercise and a diet that had chocolate and spring rolls involved, you'd think there would be bad news on the scales? Well I was pleasantly surprised! This morning I was 102.4kg, which is exactly the same as the lowest I've got so far! Great news for me! AND that is at TTOTM!!!!! Even better news!

But the BEST news of all... something I'd been *hoping* would happen... I DIDN'T NEED AN EXTENSION ON THE AIRPLANE SEATBELT!!!! First time!! I was so nervous putting it on. I *really* wanted not to need it, and when it went around me and clicked, with even a little give in it, I was SO SO HAPPY!!! Best NSV in ages.

The tape measure...

I was walking down the hallway and saw the tape measure (the kitten loves to play with it so it's always all over the house) and thought "ooh I haven't done that in ages".

Last measurements were on April 29:

* Chest 125cm
* Waist 129cm
* Hips 120cm
* Butt 127cm

To be honest my weight seems to be a bit stuck at the moment, I guess I'm on one of those horrid plateaus. It doesn't help that I'm probably not pushing 100% with my eating either, but we'll keep that bit quiet. ;)

So I grabbed the tape measure, and gasped!

* Chest 120cm
* Waist 121cm
* Hips 116cm
* Butt 124cm

That's 5cm off the ladies, 8cm (I repeat, 8cm) off the waist, 4cm off the hips and 3cm off my rear end in 2 months!!!! OH.MY.GOODNESS.

I have to stop caring what the scales say.

I have to stop caring what the scales say.

I have to stop caring what the scales say.

I have to stop caring what the scales say.

I have to stop caring what the scales say.

I have to stop caring what the scales say.

I have to stop caring what the scales say.

I have to stop caring what the scales say.

Ok I've repeated that a few times, hopefully it will sink in. LOL!

Oh and not that BMI is all that important, but I'm only 1 point off being "obese" not "morbidly obese" LOL! Hmm, that really doesn't sound so thrilling. HAHA!
