Day one of being on track and I'm doing ok so far. Muesli for lunch, 2x S&V rice cakes for snack and avocado, chicken & fresh corn roll for lunch. No drinking during meals either! For me, that's good. LOL!
Only halfway through the day so far but going well!
Weigh in put me at 97kg so that means 34kg to get to goal (unless goal is changed as I get closer, as BMI is so vague I'm only taking a guess at a goal weight, it's more like size 14 is my goal) which is approximately 1.5kg per week. Not an easy task, but I'll try. :)
Righto, if I want to lose just over another 30kg (33kg) this year I'm going to need an action plan. This 30 will NOT be as easy as the previous 30.
So I'm going to list some things here. I'd love input, so if you think you have some ideas that might help, PLEASE tell me.
HOW TO TO GET TO 63KG BY 22 JANUARY 2012
(in no particular order)
1. Put up some photo's of myself at my fattest. I hate looking at these. HATE it. I need them on the fridge and on the pantry.
2. Work out how many kg per week it is to have the weight gone by my 40th birthday (which is a couple of weeks before my 2nd bandiversary).
3. Start doing some group fitness classes. I think they help inspire, shame and encourage me more.
4. Go to the gym at least 3 times per week (Tuesday, Thursday and once on weekend).
5. Swim while my son has his swimming lesson on Wednesday mornings.
6. Organise a couple of walks per month with a friend to deliver flyers for our new business - incorporates work and exercise. :)
7. EAT NO SALT AND VINEGAR CHIPS. I think if I want to stay off them I need to completely ban them. If I want the taste it's just the S&V rice cakes instead (this is my LEAST favourite plan LOL).
8. Find some motivational quotes/sayings and put them up for me to read. Maybe have them as a screen saver on my laptop.
9. Bring my portion size back down.
10. Have a list up for each kg down to 63kg, which puts me at the upper limit of the "healthy/normal" BMI range. Cross off each kg as I get there.
I'm not quite at my bandiversary but I'm only a week or so off and I want to do this blog entry now.
One year down and I've lost about half the weight I want NEED to lose to get to goal weight. I'm down 30kg and I need to lose at least another 30kg. From where I am now that would put me at 66kg which would be absolutely acceptable for me I think.
What else happens in one year? I turn 40. My bandiversary and my birthday are within a few weeks of each other, and since it's a significant birthday (usually I don't care much about birthdays) I am going to use those two events as my inspiration to GET TO GOAL.
Watching The Biggest Loser last year, just at the time I was preparing to be banded and just after, really helped motivate me and also teach me some exercise and eating tricks. So I'm going to use it again this year to help me get back on track.
Monday is the day. Monday is when my routine gets back in order after school holidays. Monday is when my frame of mind shifts. I won't be perfect, and I don't expect perfection from myself. BUT I expect more than I've given in the last couple of months and I WILL BRING IT!! With you guys cheering me on. Please? It really helps, honestly it does. Knowing others are watching with enthusiasm, encouragement and an opportunity to make me feel guilty as well, is a great help.
I'm setting my eyes on the prize. The prize is health, freedom and, for some STUPID reason, going hang-gliding!!! LOL!
I was excited enough yesterday when I had to buy 2 new bra's and they were another size smaller in the body measurement, but, today, I have news that tops that by far!!
I AM UNDER 100KG!!!!
DOUBLE FIGURES!!!
My first goal! I have reached my first goal!! I'm now 99.6kg and ECSTATIC!!! For my outside Aus friends that is basically the equivalent of getting under 200lb, the excitement of that. The milestone.
I have a long way to go to get to my ideal weight but by crikey, it's been a LOOOONNNGGG time since I've been under 100kg!!
I think it must be time for a fish picture!! ROFL!!!
That's a 27kg carp. I've lost the equivalent of that fish!! See how heavy it is for that man to hold?
I'm excited. I want more fish!!
How on earth have I been carrying that around all the time??
I really am proud of myself. It's a whole new life I have here, one where I can actively participate in the life of my family. I can DO things!!
This is massive. It has certainly helped me see the other side better... I'm on the other side!! Right side of the fence now, all downhill from here.
The kids were a *little* (LOL) cranky we were waiting in the rain a while for it to start.
I did it, I made the 5km in the MS Society Walk & Fun Run!
I did it at 3 & 5 year old pace most of the time, as the whole family came along. And I even did half of it with one or other of the kids on my shoulders (my neck is quite sore from that though).
AND it was cold and a bit wet here and there.
AND TOM arrived! First day! Worst day!
But even with all that against me I did it.
I'm having to convince myself it was a good effort. I really didn't get the euphoria I expected when I finished. It was a bit of a let down actually. It was more like "oh well, I did it. Boring". Why? I don't know. Maybe because it was more of a stroll? I know I didn't push as fast as I could because we did it as a family. Maybe that's it.
I'm a bit sore now (my hips were quite sore yesterday, but my muscles were ok) but not too bad at all really. Tired though.
I've never done anything like this before as I'd never been able to! I have had the urge for a while to do "something" like this and a few friends joined, so I thought "why not?". I can (CAN) achieve a personal goal of finishing something like this while supporting a great cause - the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Society.
My family (husband & 2 small children) are coming along, and I've started a team with the hope of getting more on board. Our team name? Team Bandit!! LOL!
Now if there are any other Victorian Bandsters out there who want to come along and walk with a crappy-kneed bandit, go to the link above and search for my team and JOIN!!! If you want I can give you more details, just post a comment below.
I can't wait! Imagine it! Me, little old me, finishing a race! I don't care if I run, walk, crawl or roll, I just want to finish it.
When I get to a healthy, well-fitting size 14 I have to do something to reward myself.
I've decided what it is.
But I'm a little scared of putting it in writing.
On my other blog I talked one day (actually, LOTS of days) about eagles. I love eagles. And I had these sudden feelings that I could overcome my fear of heights and go hang-gliding, flying like a bird.
So... the prize (is it REALLY a prize or a punishment LOL) for reaching a healthy, well-fitting size 14 is.....
*drumroll*
GOING HANG-GLIDING!!!
I am insane! I'm sure the men with the white coats will come and get me any minute with one of those comfortable hug-yourself jackets!
Why oh why did I put this out there? I am SO going to regret this!
Today at the gym the manager came over for a chat, just to see how I was going. We chatted about how BMI's aren't really that useful (which I knew anyway) and setting goals and how I've been going etc. He said a goal of a BMI of 30 would be absolutely great for me since I'm short. I told him I'm aiming for 25 which is the upper of the "normal" range which would put me at about 62kg. But I'm happy to review that as I lose weight.
He said that he's been watching me (not in a creepy way ROFL) and was really impressed at how I've been going, that I've been going at a good pace but not pushing ahead stupidly, and that the way I'm doing it will result in less stretch marks etc. I'm pretty happy with all the compliments lately!
Anyway today I did a face paced walk on the treadmill for 2.5km (or over 30minutes) and then 2km (or about 5 minutes) on the ergometer. I was happy with that!
I've just done a wardrobe clean out. I have a garbage bag stuffed full of clothes that are a little big on me now, or fit me right now but I really only bought "because they fit me" and don't want or need. That will go to the op shop (I think overseas they're called either "thrift shops" or "charity shops").
Then I sorted through the bag of clothes that I've been given (from various sources) for me to shrink into. I have hung them at the other end of the wardrobe in sizes so I know what I already have when I get down to that size.
It was good. Nice to see some of the lovely things I'll be able to wear, and good to get rid of a bad habit of buying "just because it fits".
We discussed the post-op diet, which has me enthusiastic.
The first week is thin liquids, anything that can fit up a straw (but doesn't have to be drunk through a straw). Things like pureed soups, milk, vegie juices, yogurt, smoothies etc. I was told it's VERY important to sip not gulp, as it might shift the band. Week two I go onto thick liquids, purees etc, and then the next week, week three, it's soft foods. After that, it's food as normal.
I have to say I'm looking forward to tasting more things!
There are a few SUPER important things to ensure success with the lap band (as the video above stated), and one is PORTION SIZE. I know I was eating meals FAR too big before, so many of us do. After this I will be eating much smaller meals, and I am going to make them (mostly - c'mon, I'm allowed some nice stuff as sometimes food) nutritious! I am going to exercise and you are all going to see a new me.
We talked about goals, and I said I find it hard to put down a kg goal. First kg goal will be to get under 100kg, after that I might have a better idea. I'd say somewhere around 70kg? Less? I don't know. I want to get to a size 14. I think that is a good and reasonable goal. If I made it to a size 12 I'd be ecstatic!! The one goal I know I have right now is this:
It may not seem much to anyone else, but this is a dress I bought at an op shop YEARS ago and it was THE MOST comfortable thing I've ever worn. I just LOVED it! Comfy, I felt sexy in it (even though it's not a sexy style it just made me feel that way) and cool. Very soft material too (like t-shirt material). It's a little stretchy, which is lovely.
I want to fit in it again. I have kept it all these years (probably over 10 years) just to fit in it again, I haven't done that with any other clothes, not that long. I have no idea what size it is because the tag was cut out when I bought it.
